Looe is a small seaside town on the south coast of Cornwall, England, divided by the River Looe into East and West Looe and connected by a graceful stone bridge. With origins as a medieval port, the town has long been shaped by fishing and seafaring, traditions that still define its identity today. Narrow streets, historic cottages, and a busy harbor reflect centuries of coastal life and maritime trade.

The surrounding landscape is defined by sheltered coves, sandy beaches, and rolling coastal hills. East Looe Beach is popular for swimming and coastal walks, while the nearby South West Coast Path offers clifftop views over the English Channel. Just beyond the town, areas such as Looe Island and the countryside of southeast Cornwall provide quieter natural settings rich in wildlife and coastal scenery.

Looe’s atmosphere is intimate and characterful, with fishing boats landing fresh catches daily and local cafés and shops clustered along the waterfront. It feels distinctly Cornish, shaped by the rhythms of the tide and the close relationship between town and sea. For travelers seeking a traditional coastal town with strong local character, Looe offers a calm, authentic experience rooted in maritime heritage.
